Description

DHA is the most abundant Omega 3 fatty acid in the body because it is present in all organs especially the central nervous system, sperm and the retina. The DHA content is, normally, between 5 and 30 times greater than EPA in the majority of organs. DHA is the most beneficial fatty acid for human healthcare. It is essential for the cardiovascular system, brain development and learning capacity of children, eyes and the nervous system as well as inflammatory situations, among others. It should be noted that the purity and Algatrium form of Omega 3 is more easily absorbed directly into the cells of the body and consequently is equivalant to much higher strengths of other types The quality, purity and bio-availability (ease of absorption) of Algatrium Omega 3 surpasses all other forms on the market allowing it to achieve significant results in many fields.

The active ingredient in Omega 3 is DHA and Algatrium has 3x more DHA than other products and is also more easily absorbed and consequently achieves better results.

Different studies have demonstrated that a suitable intake of DHA is fundamental, but our regular diet presents a deficit. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends ingesting 150 mg of DHA and EPA per day; quantity that the normal diet of a citizen in our latitudes does not assume, as it is especially found in blue fish, a product that is more common in Nordic countries.

With regards to the administration of DHA and EPA, the latest recommendations suggest that the most efficient source for increasing concentrations of an Omega 3 acid is the specific administration of that acid. However, in a more general scenario, the administration of DHA guarantees a basic concentration of EPA, while the exclusive administration of the latter reduces the concentration of DHA.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

DHA is an essential element in the formation of the brain, nervous system and eyes of the foetus and baby during pregnancy and breastfeeding. This is one of the most important properties and one of most unknown and we should highlight this is an essential property of only DHA and not attributable to the rest of Omega 3 acids.

DHA can be normally found in our body in cell membranes, but the greatest concentration is found in our brain. There it has a fundamental function such as provide fluidity to cell membranes in Synapses functions.

The study financed by the European Commission and performed by the Perinatal Nutrition Lipidic Project (PeriLip) and the Early Nutrition Programming Project (EARNEST) concludes:

– The foetus and baby shall receive long-chain polysaturated fatty acids (AGPI-CL) in sufficient quantity to optimize its cognitive and visual development
– Consumption of oils rich in AGPI-CL Omega 3 during pregnancy reduces the risk of premature birth (although the gynaecologist must advise the pregnant woman on what to do in each specific case)
– Pregnant women and breastfeeding woman shall ingest on average a minimum of 200 mg of DHA per day
– Breastfeeding is recommended for children feeding on breast milk born in time
– When breastfeeding is not possible, we recommend the use of a preparation for babies with 0.2-0.5% of DHA over total lipids and a quantity equal or greater of Araquidonic acid (Omega 6)

(J Pernat Med 2008;36:5-14)

Furthermore, the French Food Healthcare Safety Agency (AFSSA) recommends 250 mg of DHA per day for expectant and breastfeeding mothers.

Infancy

DHA can be found in all cell membranes, and therefore, in all organs and tissues of our body. Especially, DHA plays a fundamental role in the nervous system, where it is essential for the suitable development, growth and operation of nervous cells.

Several studies have shown that children that have received a suitable contribution of DHA during the foetal period and first years of their life evidence a higher brain development and greater functional capacity.

The studies of Doctor Carlson in the United States, demonstrate that children with greater contribution of DHA during their foetal age, as well as the first years of their life, presented greater brain development and a higher IQ. Furthermore, WHO, British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) and the European Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) recommend that formulas for new born children be enriched with DHA, to ensure proper development of the brain.

The World Health Organization (WHO) places special emphasis on the importance of DHA in these ages.

Under certain situations that affect the emotional status, behaviour or learning of children, Paediatricians may recommend very high contributions of DHA, which would make it necessary to supplement the diet as these cannot be reached through greater fish consumption.

Sports

The application of Algatrium in sports will represent a new milestone in terms of sports performance. Algatrium produces a modification in the cell membrane’s structures regulating the rise ( up-regulation) of multiple signs.

Several studies performed by the Brudy scientific team, lead by Dr. Joan Carles Domingo of the UB and in different universities as (Barcelona, Murcia, Valencia, Alicante) have demonstrated that it reduces the oxidation induced by an intensive or unusual sport practice, it improves the aerobic resistance ( long distance)and decreases the time of response in speed sports, improving the output in sport yield
Those studies have given several Doctoral Thesis and they have obtained the award to the best Scientific communication in the XXX International Federation of Sports Medicine Congress ( FIMS) in 2008.

Ageing

The oxidative cell damage to DNA is one of the main causes of human ageing. In the case of oxidative cellular damage, it is the first time that studies in vitro and in humans have demonstrated protection against oxidation. The reduction of oxidative cell damage to DNA obtain reached 1,200%. These spectacular results open a new avenue for delaying human ageing.

Scientific studies have demonstrated that free radicals are the basic cause of skin ageing. Damage cell structures, compromising the ability of the skin to work optimally. The fight against free radicals and damage repair is an essential part of the nutritional strategy against skin ageing.

In addition, on ageing, skin looses capacity to fight against free radicals and protect itself against oxidative stress (oxidative excess), which entails a loss of vitality and luminosity. Scientific studies evidence that nutrients that on ingestion are beneficial to general health protection are also beneficial when directly applied to the skin.

Algatrium AgeStop has shown capacity to protect skin cells against DNA damage caused by sun and external agents unknown hereto. Direct DNA protection of skin cells delays their ageing.

It provides a daily defence against signs of ageing by increasing protection levels against free radicals that cause oxidative damage in the main cell components.

This damage causes a reduction of vital protection processes, including the capacity of the cell to generate endogenous antioxidants and internal repair. Algatrium AgeStop allows the skin to continue beautiful against oxidation while remaining shiny and young. The ingestion of Algatrium Plus capsules or liquid powers this antioxidant defence from the inside and throughout the entire body.
